The Great Valley Writing Project has been sponsoring this two week program for several years. During the program the K-2 class has been learning about the metamorphosis of dragonflies and butterflies. They have also studied nature by going on "walk abouts" which allows them to observe nature. Students also watched short video clips and sang songs about the life cycle. The students also planted lettuce seeds and wrote passages on the organisms they studied. Third grade has been studying snails. They start off each day by writing a passage about the life of snails. The third graders also wrote research reports on what they had learned that day. The students would also draw a picture according to what they wrote. During the week they also wrote and illustrated stories such as "When I Woke Up this Morning I was a Snail." This year students had the opportunity to learn about nature while improving their writing.
